What Is Making Team Decisions?

Making Team Decisions (MTD) is a training/teaching tool that guides a team through the five steps of decision making as well as the five critical questions of discussion to optimum consensus level. The imagery and metaphor of the MTD logo, a five-point star (the Synergy Star) presents a wholly new approach to decision making and, as a centerfold star, can serve as a poster or schematic guide for future optimum decision making.

The Synergy Star can be applied to any organizational, department or team decision. It is utilized in other processes: Driving Team Performance, Creative Root Cause Analysis and Planning Team Strategy.

How Does It Work?

This colorful planning workbook includes an 11″ X 17″ “Synergy Star” that visualizes the paradigm. Utilizing team communication and following the Synergy Star process, teams make synergistic decisions. The Synergy Star centerfold can be displayed for visual impact or carried in a personal planning notebook.

About the Interactive Version

The computer version of Making Team Decisions: The Synergy Star Interactive Program follows the same process form as the popular paper workbook version. Each file can be saved, revisited and transported to other teammates who also have the program on their computers. The program works well as a “ThinkPad” device for effective synergistic decisions. It helps individuals organize their thoughts and decision-making discussion with others. The process ensures that all aspects of a decision are considered and discussed resulting in extraordinary “buy-in.” Project the program through an LCD and an entire team can view and discuss a problem while the operator captures and saves discussion in the dialogue boxes. It also works well for debriefing situations, observation exercises and building optimum consensus levels.

How Making Team Decisions Fits into the Advanced Team System

The Making Team Decisions module is part of Volume I of the Advanced Team System, a comprehensive guide to teamwork that is made up of three volumes. In order to experience the full benefit of the program, you will need to purchase the Master Facilitator Guide for Volume I, Driving Team Performance. The Master Facilitator Guide includes everything you will need to successfully lead a Making Team Decisions workshop and guide a team through successful decision making.

Master Facilitator Guide, Volume I includes an introduction to Volume I and description of the master facilitator’s role; the modules Making Team Decisions, Driving Team Performance, Unifying Team Purpose and Discovering Team Operandi, plus one participant workbook for each module; answer sheets; and black and white masters for presentation overheads.

MTD Interactive Version is available as a CD for your Mac or PC. Purchase and install this program on your computer for continuous personal use.
